DNA’S NEW SALON SERIES

Saturday, April 30, 2011 7:30-9:30pm

Inaugural Event – SIMONSON: TEACHERS AND MOVERS

with Laurie De Vito, Katiti King and Diane McCarthy

The premiere event of DNA’s new Salon Series will focus on the unique dance technique created by DNA Co-Founder, Lynn Simonson. Simonson Technique is an organic approach to movement that prepares the body to experience the joy of dance through anatomically-based principles of body awareness and alignment. Taught in 19 countries worldwide, Simonson Technique is available in NYC only at DNA. SIMONSON: TEACHERS AND MOVERS will feature Simonson teachers and choreographers Laurie De Vito (DNA Co-Founder), Katiti King and Diane McCarthy. These three artists, all of whom studied and collaborated closely with Lynn Simonson, will offer glimpses of choreography, dance instruction and conversation about what makes a dance or dancer: how do we use the tool of the human body to express the human spirit?

Griselda Healy Exhibition at DNA Gallery

Figure in Motion

Exhibition Dates: November 18, 2010 – January 3rd 2011

A series of figure movement sequences drawn from a company of seven dancers that work with one of the founders of DNA, choreographer Laurie De Vito.  De Vito’s work and her dance company provide me with an array of visual figure motion possibilities that to my eye elegantly express the ideas I wish to convey; visual contemporary figure movement in the context of our time and place.
